What Makes Yorkville So Great?
Yorkville is regarded as one of the most popular shopping districts in the entire country. On either side of the brick paved streets are upscale retailers and gourmet restaurants that attract Toronto residents and tourists from all over the world. Many of the original Victorian homes of the 1800s have been converted to commercial spaces, as the area’s condominiums serve as the primary residential opportunity for Yorkville’s trendy, urban, high-end residents.
Your Typical Neighbour
Young, moneyed singles or starter families looking for their first purchase. Accomplished child-less professionals. Empty nesters looking to downsize from their large suburban homes. Also potentially a star athlete or celebrity.
What I Love
You can people watch from the patio over an amazing (expensive) meal at One, or head to ZaZa for an espresso and more of the same. And where else in the city can you find a park with a billion year old rock in it?
Types Of Homes
Beginning in the 1870s, Yorkville real estate has consisted primarily of Victorian-style detached and semi-detached homes. Many of those houses are now listed as heritage properties by the city of Toronto, and some have even been converted into commercial properties to maintain the charm of the neighbourhood.
Condo And Loft Living
Within Yorkville is some of the most prized luxury condos in all of Toronto, including the Four Seasons, 40 Hazelton, 133 Hazelton, Hazelton Private Residences, Museum House, One St. Thomas, One Bedford, The Prince Arthur, The Regency Yorkville, 100 Yorkville and Yorkville Plaza.
You Should See
While in Yorkville, shopping isn’t the only thing to enjoy. For ancient artifacts and art pieces you can’t buy in store, visit the Royal Ontario Museum, or if footwear is your thing, walk down to Bloor Street and St. George Street to see the world’s largest collection of shoes.
Neighbourhood Hot Spots
Along Bloor Street, between Yonge Street and Avenue Road, is the top destination for shoppers in Canada. The Mink Mile is the place to be for international high end brands like Gucci, Prada, Tiffany, plus small boutique stores, antique shops and art galleries.
Schools
Private schools outnumber the public and separate locally, but there are options.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS: Jesse Ketchum Public School Jr. and Sr. School
SENIOR SCHOOLS: Jesse Ketchum Public School Jr. and Sr. School
Getting Around
The Bloor/Yonge and Bay subway stations are within walking distance, and the Don Valley Parkway is only 5 minutes away if you’re driving in. Although, I recommend walking through the neighbourhood so you don’t miss a thing.
